Terms of Service

Last updated July 16, 2026

These Terms govern your use of Elective. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. Elective is a nonpartisan civic tool — it is not legal, voting, or financial advice.

1. Who we are

Elective ("Elective", "we", "us") provides a mobile web app that summarizes legislation in plain language, lets you take positions, and shows how your representatives vote. Elective is operated by [—: legal entity to be inserted].

2. Eligibility & your account

You must be at least 13 years old to use Elective. Sign-in is passwordless (Google or a one-time email link). You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in method secure.

3. What Elective is — and isn't

Bill summaries are generated by AI from public government sources and may contain errors or omissions; every bill links to its official source, which is authoritative. Elective does not tell you how to vote, does not endorse candidates or parties, and is not a substitute for official election information or professional advice.

4. Your content & conduct

Positions, tracked items, notes, and tags you create are yours and remain private to your account. You agree not to misuse the service — no attempts to break, overload, scrape, or reverse-engineer it, and no unlawful use.

5. Elective Pro (subscriptions)

Elective Pro is an optional paid subscription billed monthly or annually. It renews automatically until cancelled; you can cancel anytime and keep access through the end of the paid period. Payments are processed by our reseller, Lemon Squeezy, as merchant of record. Pricing and cancellation are described at checkout and in Settings → Billing; refunds are governed by our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

6. Free civic access

Elective's civic core — briefings, bill detail, representative records, votes, campaign finance and trades that are already public, and how-to-vote information — is free, and we do not put public records behind the paywall. Pro adds alerts, AI, scale, and organization on top.

7. Intellectual property

Government data is public and attributed to its source (for example, state bill data from LegiScan is used under CC BY 4.0). The Elective name, app, and original content are ours; using the app does not transfer those rights to you.

8. Disclaimers & liability

The service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Elective is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months or $50.

9. Changes & termination

We may update these Terms; material changes will be posted here with a new date. You may stop using Elective and delete your account at any time from Settings → Data & permissions. We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms.

10. Governing law & contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of [—: state to be inserted], without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Questions? Email support@elective.app.
