Privacy Policy
Last updated July 16, 2026
Elective is built to be privacy-first: your positions are private, we never sell personal data, and the app never acts on your behalf without an explicit tap. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Information you provide
- Account: your email address (for passwordless sign-in) and an optional display name and avatar.
- Home address: used to determine your congressional and state-legislative districts. The address is sent to the U.S. Census geocoder for that lookup; we store the derived districts and city/state, not a precise location trail.
- Your activity: positions (Support/Oppose), tracked bills, followed representatives, saved elections, and any Pro notes/tags and topic interests you set. These are private to your account.
Information collected automatically
- Basic, privacy-friendly usage analytics (which you can turn off in Settings → Privacy).
- Error diagnostics to keep the app working.
- If you enable notifications, a push subscription token for your device.
How we use it
To run the app: match your representatives, assemble your daily briefing, personalize your feed, save what you track, and — for Pro members — send alerts and generate AI explanations. We do not use your positions to target advertising, and we do not sell personal data.
Service providers
We share data only with providers that help us operate, under their own terms:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
- Vercel — hosting and privacy-friendly analytics.
- U.S. Census Bureau — geocoding your address to districts.
- Anthropic — generating on-demand AI bill explanations for Pro members (sent the bill's public text, not your identity).
- Lemon Squeezy — payment processing and billing for Pro, as merchant of record.
- Sentry — error monitoring.
Your choices & rights
- Export your data or delete your account anytime from Settings → Data & permissions.
- Turn analytics and address-based personalization on or off in Settings → Privacy.
- Manage or disable notifications in Settings → Notifications.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data; email support@elective.app and we'll help.
Retention & children
We keep your data while your account is active; deleting your account removes your personal data from our systems. Elective is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes & contact
We'll post material changes here with a new date. Questions or requests: support@elective.app.
