Protects Commercial Flights During Funding Lapses
HR6012-119 · Introduced Nov 10, 2025
Why it matters
During a government shutdown, airline passengers would be less likely to see scheduled flights cut while private jets keep flying. Private jet flights would be stopped at the same time as commercial flights.
What it does
- Bars the FAA from reducing or pausing commercial flights during a funding lapse
- Allows commercial flight cuts only if all private jet flights in the same area also stop
- Exempts private jet flights for safety, medical, military, cargo, and disaster relief
- Lets the FAA enforce it with civil penalties or lawsuits in federal court

Perspectives
💬 The case for
Airline passenger groups would likely say regular travelers should not lose flights while private jets keep flying. They may argue that the rule treats all travelers more fairly.
💬 The case against
Safety groups would likely say the bill could limit the FAA's ability to protect flights during a shutdown. Some aviation experts may worry about staffing and airspace risks.
